FRANCISCO ARCELLANA

“Franz” whos whole name is Zacarias Eugene Francisco Quino Arcellana  he was born in march 22 1991. He was a poet, writer, essayist , critic , journalist and a teacher. He is fourth of eighteen children. His parents are Jose Arcellana y Cabaniero and Epifanio Quino. He was married to Emerencaina Arcellana.

In 1932 Arcellana entered the University of the Philippines (UP) as a pre-medicine student and graduated in 1939 with a bachelor of philosophy in degree. In his junior year, mainly because of the publication of his “trilogy of the turtles” in the Literary Apprentice, Arcellana was invited to join the UP Writers Club by Manuel Arguilla – who at that time was already a campus literary figure. In 1934, he edited and published Expression, a quarterly of experimental writing. It caught the attention of Jose Garcia Villa who started a correspondence with Arcellana. It also spawned the Veronicans, a group of 13 pre-WWII who rebelled against traditional forms and themes in Philippine literature.

Arcellana went on to medical school after receiving his bachelor's degree while holding jobs in Herald Midweek Magazine, where his weekly column “Art and Life” (later retitled “Life and Letters”) appeared, and in Philcross, the publication of the Philippine Red Cross. The war stopped his schooling. After the war, he continued working in media and publishing and began a career in the academe. He was manager of the International News Service and the editor of This Week. He joined the UP Department of English and Comparative Literature and served as adviser of the Philippine Collegian and director of the UP Creative Writing Center, 1979- 1982. Under a Rockefeller Foundation grant he became a fellow in creative writing, 1956- 1957, at the University of Iowa and Breadloaf Writers' Conference.

In 1932 Arcellana published his first story. “The Man Who Could Be Poe” in Graphic while still a student at Torres High School. The following year two of his short stories, “Death is a Factory” and “Lina,” were included in Jose Garcia Villa's honor roll. During the 1930's, which he calls his most productive period, he wrote his most significant stories including, “Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal” cited in 1938 by Villa as the year's best. He also began writing poetry at this time, many of them appearing in Philippine Collegian, Graphic and Herald Midweek Magazine.

He is considered an important progenitor of the modern Filipino short story in English. Arcellana pioneered the development of the short story as a lyrical prose-poetic form within Filipino literature. His works are now often taught in tertiary-level-syllabi in the Philippines.

video games reduces quality of life

Video Games Reduces the quality of Life

many would agree and many would disagree, mainly gamers would disagree since they have found games an improvement to their life. but why do i say that video games decreases the quality of life?

while playing video games we are going through a virtual world or a virtual reality where in we tend to forget what is real and in a period of time trapped in that reality. it decreases the quality of life in many ways, we see gamers, computer addicts throwing away money just too play and improve their virtual reality experience. Instead of coping up with reality, some people choose to get stuck in that virtual world. Tell me, what do they get from that?

For gamers, gaming is their drugs, they get a certain high where in they get addicted to the feeling that they forget what and how reality really is.

Defense of the ancients, one of the most addictive games known to people of all ages. this game is for free, but there are a lot of purchases that can be made to improve the so called ' gaming experience ' .

I am not stating that i am against these said games but what i am trying to say is that i myself would not waste my precious time and money dealing with these things which are also known as virtual reality.

verdict
video games could be a great past time but moderation is highly recommended. you would not want to find yourself 10 years from now with kids and still hooked up to these video games.

IKKORYU FUKUOKA RAMEN

I Have eaten more than 5 Times in this Dazzling restaurant. For me it is the best among all the ramen restaurants I have tasted. I had the AJITAMA RAMEN. It is their best seller. Inside the ramen is a whole egg cut into half, seaweed, mushrooms, spring onions, garlic, and broth pork. Almost all restaurants who serves ramen have the same content. But what stand out in this ramen?

Their soup. I found theirs soup 100% amazing. Its definitely worth a try, and once you do.. I tell you there is no going back to your usual ramen place. Another is their Eggs, unlike normal eggs, theirs taste a lot different. The egg is mildly sweet and creamy which drives me crazy and make me order an extra egg for every time I dine.

Honorable mention to their broth pork, which is unquestionably very soft. Soft as cotton if you may compare.

Overall the ramen is very rich in flavor and texture and unlike any other ramen house their noodles tastes a lot better.

Another worth trying is their gyoza. Mouth watering hot, tender gyoza!!! If you are really hungry and need a warm up before chugging the ramen, then the gyoza for you is a must!!! Not to mention the serving is 6 pieces where in other places you usually get 4.

Price
The ramen costs about 300-400 Pesos, I apologize for not giving the exact amount, I guess the flavors are too rich that I don’t mind paying how much for it.
The Gyoza costs about 150-200 php. For me the price is really decent as well.

Ambience
The ambience for me is really cozy and gives me an  ‘ im in japan ‘ feeling. And that’s another reason why I love dining in this place.

Rating
Ambience 4/5
Taste 5/5
Price 4/5

MARIJUANA USAGE
Cannabis sativa

What is marijuana? Marijuana is a drug illegal in the Philippines but is legal in some countries. Marijuana is a drug that is highly addictive (that’s what they say). It is a drug used for medication, a substitute of pain relievers it also can reduce anxiety.

Why is marijuana illegal in the Philippines?
For me marijuana is illegal in the Philippines mainly because the people lack discipline in terms of its consumption. It is being out of hand and used for the wrong purposes. Such as drug abuse and just to get the “high “ feeling.

Now how does being high feel?
Marijuana has an active ingredient called THC that gives you the high feeling. That can make you feel different things depending on the person and the type of marijuana itself.

Some say it makes them feel drowsy along with this is the insane urge to eat.
Some say that marijuana makes them focus more, and reportedly some claim they cant do anything or ‘function’ well without it.

Indeed marijuana is addictive, the drug has its main functions and should not be misused. Although accepted in different countries, the Philippines has not yet embraced the drug. We know very well that this drug is still being grown in this country but no one knows where.

The thing is, it is illegal in the Philippines therefore have NOTHING to do with it. Always bear in mind that drugs destroys not only you but destroys your family as well.

Don’t let this drug get in to you or any kind of illegal drug. We all make choices in life and we have the freedom to choose whether to or not to. Its up to you if you would like to do so but as much as possible stay away from danger.

STAY LEGAL !!

Heneral luna

HENERAL LUNA

General Luna was born in October 29, 1866. He is one of our national heroes. But what makes him one of our national heroes? What makes him special? What differentiates him from the rest of our fallen soldiers?

The answer is, General Luna has started a revolution. General Luna has demonstrated true courage. That not even death can scare and defy him. He teaches us to have strength in the middle of fear and chaos. He has also showed us extreme leadership, he has indeed showed us that and demonstrating to us how a true Filipino should really be. Another is that he has showed us loyalty. He is very true to his word and is loyal to this country at all causes. And lastly General Luna showed us love for our country. He is demonstrating to us how all of us Filipinos should be. That we should not only be watchers even in this modern world. Instead address our problems. Face them with courage. Make our weaknesses our strength. We must learn to love this country more than we love ourselves. We must always consider and be mindful of our country. How else will society change if each individual doesn’t desire change in their heart? Then all if futile if that is what it is.

Change is never too late, General luna is a great example of, being a great leader, being courageous and being faithful even in the worst situations. He is mighty and every Filipino should not limit themselves. Instead desire and be like thim. Grow a heart for this nation, bring change to this nation and we too will experience the fruits of this labor that we are about to render. A Filipino is always a Filipino. He doesn’t just watch his country fall, but he puts his country up and first above all.

apc non-smoking campaign

APC  NON-SMOKING CAMPAIGN

Smoking, what good does it do to you? How does it improve your life? Does it help you? Does it gives you what you need?

Some research shows that a percent of smokers smoke for relaxation. Another percent smokes because of peer pressure and some says they just smoke for fun. But what does smoking do to you? Is the nicotine high worth paying for? Ill answer that question right away. No its not, cigarettes contain thousands of bacterias that are very harmful for our bodies. Bacteria that not can only make you sick but can even make you face death itself. A cigarette takes away 10 minutes of your life. And an average smoker smokes about 20 sticks a day. In a day he takes away 200 minutes of his life, imagine how that 200 mins can affect you in the long run. Another is that it causes lung cancer, emphysema, throat cancer and a lot more sicknesses. Some people make the addiction an excuse for them not to stop. Some even say it is impossible to. Well, it is not. Bo sanchez is one of his books made cigarette smoking an example. And he shows how to stop it. And I quote ‘ make your Y bigger than your X’ meaning make your reason to stop (Y) bigger than smoking (X). for example, a dad who has been smoking for over 10 years. We all know that even If we tell him to stop nothing will happen. But what if I point a gun at his daughter and tell him, stop smoking and never smoke again or Ill kill your daughter. Surely he would stop for he values his daughter more. In the same way he values the Y more than the X, therefore making him stop.

Smoking is something very widespread here in the Philippines and here in our beloved college. But never make addiction an excuse to remain smoking. Always remember each stick counts. The more you do the earlier you die. Don’t exchange whats temporal for what good that there is instore for you

MOVIE
Turn Left - Turn Right

The movie turn left turn right is a Chinese movie that shows how destiny plays with two lovers as they continue to find each other while facing the same trials. Unknowingly that they are just neighbors, destiny puts the two of them to the test.

The movie basically started of in a park near the fountain where in the girl gets her papers wet and the guy helps her. As they talk they both find out that they have met each other 13 years ago in the same setting and situation. After some catching up, rain began to fall. They both exchanged numbers and both was happy. Unfortunately, when both of them got home the numbers of each other which they both wrote were impossible to read. They both spent countless times trying to guess the right number, until they both became sick because of the rain. They were both hospitalized and were just a room away. They also searched for each other countless times before they were hospitalized, they were always in the same places but never found one another. In the middle of the story a delivery woman comes across the life of the guy and a doctor to the girl. They both did everything to not make them see each other. In the end, the two foes were brought together, and in pity to both the lovers the delivery woman gave the number of the girl to the guy and the doctor to the girl. But they both did not reveal that the number is their lover instead they addressed it as their own. Some time passed, both lovers got accepted in jobs at their field of expertise and are about to move some place far, so the guy calls the number the delivery woman has given her which he thought was hers to say his goodbye and how he feels for the girl and likewise as to the girl to the doctor. Both found out that the numbers given was theirs and as just the phone rang an earthquake emerged breaking the walls of their houses, only for them to find out they were neighbors after all.

Destiny could really play us around, but if its meant to be then it will happen in the right time. No force no power can ever stop it. Indeed we have seen such great love both guy and girl have demonstrated in their countless efforts just to see each other. They have shown us a representation of true love. Love that is selfless and love that never gives up

Self Introduction

I am Robert Lawrence P. Guido, born in June 26 1998 here in the Philippines. i am eldest among 3 and i really love my family. Not much hobbies but i do attend a lot of seminars on how to become a better person. Ever since I was a child I really had the passion to both speak and write regardless of the topics. I am very fond of writing and talking about things naturally. I intend to do blogs. Although I am good with any topic, there is one that I fancy the most among everything. That is talking about society and politics.

You see, ever since I was a child I have really grown a heart for this country. I firmly believe that in order for there to be change, one must not put violence among the people, particularly adults. For they cannot be changed that easily for what attitude they carry among themselves are the same attitudes and characteristics they have developed all though out their existence.  Instead, we must be a living example to others. Show them how you have changed, so they too would desire that change. If we don’t, our country would just go around in circles. A never ending cycle of undisciplined adults who passes down their way of living to their offspring and it turns out that their children are far worse than them.

My passion really is speaking and writing, I love to give my say about a lot of things, most especially politics, society and economics. Change is not impossible, in fact it is inevitable, but why is it that the good things are the things that change and the bad things remain the same through the ages? What is causing this and why?

Again I am Robert Lawrence P. Guido, I love speaking and writing, currently enrolled in asia pacific college, Makati city. Thank you all for taking some of your luxury time in reading this piece of mine.
